与传统的计划经济体制下的高校教育环境不同,目前市场机制对高校教育环境产生着深刻的影响,市场的需求左右甚至引导了高校教育的发展方向。一个非常重要的现象就是高校的专业设置受到劳动力市场对于人才需求的左右,在高校美术学院与艺术学院中较为典型的表现便是:以前,高校美术学院在专业设置方面尚以绘画、雕塑等颇具学院气息的传统专业为主,而今,随着新兴产业的发展,诸如动漫、设计等新兴专业也在美术学院,以及外延更为广泛的艺术学院得到开设。尤其最近十多年,此类新兴专业更是成为艺术教育主流,绘画、雕塑等传统专业边缘化甚至完全缺席。
