2011年3月8日,国务院学位委员会在经过长达10年的综合调研之后,适时公布了新的《学位授予和人才培养学科目录(2011年)》,艺术学成为第13个“学科门类”。与之相辅相成的一件大事,是在艺术学学科门类下重新整合了一级学科:艺术学理论成为与音乐与舞蹈学、戏剧与影视学、美术学、设计学相并列的一级学科。很显然,艺术学理论与其他四个学科有重要区别,这种区别主要体现在以下几个方面:
On March 8, 2011, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council released a new Catalog of Subjects for Degree Granting and Training (2011) after a comprehensive investigation of 10 years, and became the 13th academic discipline in a timely manner ".
