Lead poisoning is not a new problem, but as of now, the seriousness of the problem has not received the attention it deserves. Lead is used to produce gasoline additives, acid batteries, and more recently used in lead-based paints. These and many other products are sources of lead in the soil we breathe, in potable water, and in crop plants. Children are most susceptible to lead poisoning; lead damages the central nervous system and causes death in severe cases.
