In recent years, Ericsson has been very active in the Chinese market and China has developed into Ericsson’s second largest market in the world. At the end of 1996, Ericsson signed a $280 million expansion contract with Guangdong Mobile Communications Corporation. According to the contract, this expansion includes three parts: the large-scale expansion of the third phase of the GSM digital mobile phone network, the introduction of the DCS1800 system for the first time, and the fourteenth adjustable capacity expansion of the analog mobile phone network. After this expansion, Guangdong Posts and Telecommunications’ mobile communications network will cover both network capacity and network coverage.
