宣恩县椿木营地区位于北纬30°、海拔1,600多米的高山上,可以代表宣恩、建始、恩施、鶴峯以及利川等县海拔1,500—1,700米左右的高山地区。椿木营地区气候冷湿。据1960—1964年气象记载,年平均温度10℃左右,稻作期(4月中旬至9月底)的平均温度为16.3℃,≥℃15℃的有120天(6—9月),≥18℃的有60天左右(7—8月)。最热是7月,月平均温度20.2℃,其次是8月,平均温度19.1℃;极限最高温出现在7月下旬达28℃,但一年只有1—2
