北京胸科医院地处偏僻的京郊。这些年,这家以治疗结核病为主的医院病人逐年减少,于是,开始向老年医院转建。非典疫情突然袭来时,医院被确定为全市第一批救治非典定点医院。在小汤山医院建立之前,北京胸科医院是北京最大的非典定点医院。医院全体职工在党委领导下,在兄弟医院医疗队的帮助下,奋力抗击非典,克服了难以想象的困难,两个月内累计收治非典病人453人,到6月20日,住院的病人已全部出院。共产党员占领“第一位置”3月26日下午5时,院领导接到了市卫生局指示,要求立即准备收治非典病人。当晚20时30分,医院召开部分中层干部、护士长以上人员的紧急会议,传达任务,进行思想动员,成立医院非典专项工作领导小组。
