图霍尔斯基擅长写文艺评论、杂文、诗歌、散文,以幽默辛辣的笔触嘲讽德国小市民习气,抨击沙文主义、军国主义、官僚政治和魏玛共和国时期的司法机构,呼吁人们警惕法西斯主义。图霍尔斯基才思敏捷,经常用五个笔名同时在报刊上发表文章。他生前出版的重要集子有《在普鲁士壁炉旁的梦幻》(1920)、《用五马力》(1928)、《蒙娜·丽莎的微笑》(1929)、《德国,德国高于一切》(1929)、《别哭,要学着笑》(1931)。他的两部小说《莱茵斯贝格》(1912)和《格里普斯霍尔姆宫》(1931)以幽默抒情的笔调描写蔑视资产阶级传统道德的青年人的爱情,暴露了小市民阶层的偏狭和贪婪。此外,他还与人合写了哥伦布发现新大陆的剧本《哥伦布或美洲的发现》(1930)。图霍尔斯基去世之后一段时期曾受到冷落,他的妻子玛丽·格罗尔特-图霍尔斯基(1893—1987)孜孜不倦,收集丈夫遗作,在半个多世纪里出版了大量图霍尔斯基文集,并与德国著名评论家、作家弗里茨·拉达茨合作编辑出版了《图霍尔斯基全集》(1960,3卷本;1975,10卷本)。她还搜集购买了大量关于图霍尔斯基的资料,成立了图霍尔斯基档案馆。她去世之前,决定将全部资料无偿捐赠给设在席勒故乡马尔巴赫的德意志文学馆。图霍尔斯基的作品大都发表在报刊上,而且大量未署真名,近年人们陆续发现了许多图霍尔斯基的作品。为纪念图霍尔斯基诞辰一百周年,罗沃尔特出版社计划从1992年起陆续编辑出版一套新的了图霍尔斯基全集》,共计22卷,预计1998年全部出齐。这里选译的八篇散文均选自罗沃尔特出版社1975年的10卷本《图霍尔斯基全集》。插图为德国著名画家维尔纳·克勒姆克(Werner Klemke,1917—)所作。克勒姆克是原民主德国艺术科学院院士、国际插图协会会员,曾为数百种图书制作过封面或插图,其中最主要的是文学作品,如福楼拜的《包法利夫人》、马克·吐温的《王子和贫儿》等外国名著,也有施托姆、海涅、冯塔纳、沙米索、凯勒和布莱希特、布雷德尔、费曼、伯尔、施特里特马特等古典和现代德语作品。五六十年代,他还曾经为我国作家赵树理、周立波,茅盾、肖三等人的作品制作过封面。他设计制作封面、插图的图书曾在前民主德国和国际性书展上多次获奖。
Thothsky is good at writing literary criticism, essays, poems, prose, ironic German humor in spicy humor, attacking the judiciary of the era of chauvinism, militarism, bureaucracy and the Weimar Republic, calling for vigilance against fascism. Thothsky was quick-witted and often published articles in the press with five pseudonyms. Important books he published during his lifetime were “Dreams by the Prussian Fireplace” (1920), “Five Power” (1928), “Smile of Mona Lisa” (1929), “Above All in Germany and Germany” (1929), “Do not cry, learn to laugh” (1931). His two novels, “Rheinsberg” (1912) and “Grippeholm Palace” (1931), depict the love of young people who defy the traditional morality of the bourgeoisie in a humorous lyric style, exposing the Narrow and greedy. In addition, he co-wrote Columbus’s script for discovering the New World, Discovery of Columbus or the Americas (1930). Tookhorski was neglected some time after his death, and his wife, Mary Glotter-Tukhorsky (1893-1987) worked tirelessly to collect her husband’s legacy and published a large number of drawings over more than half a century Holsky Collection, edited and published the Complete Works of Tu Horskey in collaboration with the famous German critic and author Fritz Radatz (1960, 3, 1975, 10 volumes). She also collected a large number of information about the purchase of Tocholschi, the establishment of the Tocsinski archives. Prior to her death, she decided to donate all the information at no cost to the German Museum of Literature, located in Schiller’s hometown of Marlbach. Thothski’s works are mostly published in the press, and a large number of non-real names, in recent years, many people have discovered a number of Turshorseji’s work. To commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of Turshorse’s birth, Rover’s Press plans to compile and publish a new set of Thothsky’s Complete Works from 1992 onwards, a total of 22 volumes and is expected to be fully released in 1998. The eight essays selected for translating here are all selected from the 10 volumes of Tookhorski’s Complete Works, published by Rohlert in 1975. Illustration by famous German painter Werner Klemke (Werner Klemke, 1917-). Kelmke is an academician of the former German Academy of Arts and the member of the International Illustrated Society. He has produced cover or illustrations for hundreds of books. The most important of these are literary works, such as Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, Twain’s “princes and poor children” and other foreign masterpieces, but also Stomm, Heine, Fontane, Shamiso, Keller and Brecht, Bredel, Feynman, Burr, Streeter Matt and other classical and modern German works. In the 1950s and 1960s, he also produced covers for the works of our country’s writers Zhao Shuli, Zhou Libo, Mao Dun and Xiao San. He designed the cover, illustrations of books in the former Democratic Germany and international book fair many winners.
