鹿在中国古代被视为神物,是古代帝王的一种象征。《宋书·符瑞志》云:“白鹿,王者明惠及下则至。”《瑞应图》亦曰:“王者承先圣法度,无所遗失,则白鹿来。”在民间,鹿还常以仙兽的形象出现,人们认为它能带来吉祥、幸福与长寿。又因鹿与“禄”谐音,它还象征着福气与奉禄。这是一只正卧地回首的小鹿。以“鹿”为题材的雕件或摆件中多见回首状的鹿,这是因为民间有“回头鹿,引人、引财,丁财两旺”的说法。难得的是,这是一只天然的玛瑙质回头鹿。它全身棕色,头部清晰可辨,头顶的鹿角架在额前,耳朵还俏皮地向后翘起,而最奇绝的是它的眼睛,仿佛有了灵性一般回头望着身后。这样一只回头鹿,必会为主人带来好运。
