My main point of view in this article is that the presence of the war was deliberately concealed and ignored in this novel, which is in fact a tragedy of war. So far, various reviews have always focused on the post-war twenties. According to this view, war is only the background of this novel, and it is long before the story begins. Therefore, in this essay, I try to pull the war from the backstage to the foreground and focus the presence of war on the hidden traumas in this story. To support this argument, I mainly analyze from three aspects: first, Jack’s love for Brett; second, his conflict with Cohen; third, the bullfighting festival in Pamplona. In short, I think for people like Jack, the war is there anytime.
