This year is the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911, the 130th anniversary of Lu Xun’s birth, and finding his footprint in the alley is of special significance. Although Lu Xun was born in Shaoxing, the longest living city in his working life is Beijing. It is hard to imagine what would have been the forerunner of this respectable new cultural movement in modern Chinese history. It is his presence that gives us reason to believe that the Chinese nation has a brilliant future of cultural rejuvenation. Lu Xun in Beijing, just as Dickens in London, Voltaire in Paris, Emerson in Washington, Fukuzawa Yuji in Tokyo. However, our approach to his study has been narrow and monotonous. It seems that we should pay more attention to this issue from the angles of talent generation, literary geography and sociology.
