盆景艺术发展的自身规律之一,即传统发展的历史继承性。前人的盆景,总是给后人以巨大的影响,后人又总是要借鉴前人的成果。借鉴基本有两种态度,从而引出两种做法和结果。一种是“借古以开今”。目的是为了革新创造,为今人服务。目前国内盆景界卓有建树的盆景艺术家,没有不是博学诸家,独抒己见,既有深厚的传统功力,又有与众不同
