齿轮传动的工作状况,对齿轮轮齿所受实际载荷的大小影响很大。原动机的输出转矩名义值虽然相同,作用在齿轮上的实际载荷却随原动机的特性而异。如电动机,蒸汽轮机或燃气轮机运转比较平稳,而内燃机由于存在四个不同的冲程,其输出波动很大,缸数越少越严重。输出转矩的波动程度,除输出功率外,还决定于其输出转数的波动程度。如果机器的名义角速度以ω_n表示,其运转不均匀程度用最大和最小角速度的差(ω_(max)-ω_(min))表示,则其运转不均匀的严重程度可用不均匀系数δ表示,δ=(ω_(max-ω_(min))/ω_n。
