美国著名汉学家、汉语语言学家罗杰瑞(Jerry Norman)教授因病于2012年7月7日在美国西雅图逝世,终年76岁。罗杰瑞教授于1936年7月16日出生在美国加利福尼亚。早年在加州大学伯克利分校师从赵元任先生及其他语言学名家。期间到中国台湾调查汉语闽方言,于1969年在伯克利加州大学以闽方言研究的论文获得博士学位。他曾在普林斯顿大学教书,1971年继李方桂先生之后出任西雅图华盛顿大学亚洲语言文学系主任,此后一直在该
The famous American scholar and Chinese linguist Professor Jerry Norman died of a disease in Seattle, the United States on July 7, 2012 and died at the age of 76. Professor Roger was born on July 16, 1936 in California, USA. Early years at the University of California, Berkeley faculty from Mr. Zhao Yuanren and other linguistics masters. During his visit to Taiwan, China, he studied Chinese dialects and received a doctorate in 1969 from the University of California, Berkeley in his research on the dialect of Min Dialects. He taught at Princeton University and was the director of Asia Language and Literature Department at Seattle University of Washington in 1971, following Mr. Li Fanggui.
