According to a foreign report (1982): A study conducted by the American Medical Association shows that in the developed countries of the world, infant mortality in the United States is the highest, 16th among all other countries. The study, compiled by TorBjerkdal, a Norwegian professor at Oslo University and David Erickson of the National Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, shows that the infant mortality rate in the United States is 14.1 ‰ and in Norway is 9.2 ‰. The high rate in the United States is due to the fact that many babies are very light at birth, especially from ethnic minorities, while non-Caucasian mothers weigh 13% less than 2.5kg and Caucasian babies 6.5%. Only 5% of newborn babies in Norway
