纸是中国最伟大的发明之一。纸张的发明和广泛应用,促进了世界文化的发展,对人类社会的进步产生了不可估量的巨大作用。据统计,目前全世界已有12000多种纸张,还不断地有更新的纸张问世,总之,源远流长的纸的家族越来越庞大,其新一代成员层出不穷,形象也越来越奇异多姿。西汉麻纸、絮纸和蔡侯纸纸是何时产生的呢?过去一直沿用公元5世纪时范晔的《后汉书·蔡伦传》的说法,认为是东汉宦官蔡伦于公元105年发明了纸。然而本世纪以来的考古发现,却动摇了这一说法,得知西汉初期就有了麻纸,要比蔡伦纸早200年。
