东方出版中心有出版“当代中国学者随笔丛书”的计划,要我也来一本,于是编成此集。一面编,一面自问,我能算“学者’”么?杂学之类,也曾略涉皮毛,倒不是全无关系。但据时论,学术就要纯学术,不要带一点情绪,特别是不要有一点“激进主义”;学者在学术之外,可以不关心也可以很关心社会正义事业,他的学术则应该离社会愈远意好,否则就是“广场派”,就是自命“精英”,自作多情,不足与于学者之林,云云。我拿这个标准将自己横量竖量,怎么也不够“学者”的尺码。
