有读者询问将于近期举行的PETS考试及详情,对此“益友老师”作出如下答复。全国公共英语等级考试PETS(一至五级)是为鉴定非英语专业人员的外语水平而设置的。作为社会性考试,PETS不具有评价普通中学和大学校内英语教学水平的功能,其成绩主要用于选拔国家公派出国留学人员(PETS五级)或供用人单位的参考(PETS一至四级)。PETS一至四级考试成绩的有效期由录取或用人单位自行决定。第五级成绩对于公派出国人员有效期为两年;若作为其他用途,有效期由用人单位自行决定。
A reader asked about the PETS exam and details to be held in the near future. The National Public English Test Grades PETS (Levels 1 to 5) are designed to identify non-English-speaking professional foreign language proficiency. As a social test, PETS does not have the function of evaluating the level of English teaching in ordinary middle schools and universities. Its performance is mainly used to select countries to send students abroad (PETS level 5) or for employers’ reference (PETS levels 1 to 4). The validity period of PETS grade 1 to 4 exams is decided by the admission or employer. The fifth-grade results are valid for public employees for a period of two years; if used for other purposes, the period of validity is determined by the employer.
