Osteocalcin is derived from bone tissue and is a vitamin K-dependent protein; it plays an important role in maintaining calcium and phosphorus metabolism in the body. It increases the reactivity of osteoblasts and therefore can also serve as a marker for prostate cancer bone metastases. The authors measured serum osteocalcin in 52 patients with advanced prostate cancer and followed up for changes in osteocalcin after endocrine therapy. The aim is to obtain the value of bone metastases monitoring in the early diagnosis of prostate cancer bone metastases and during treatment.
