由于近代世界市场的形成,河南也成为国际贸易的组成部分。茧绸作为河南对外贸易的主要商品之一,很大程度上影响着近代河南的经济发展。河南茧绸的生产,有其深厚的历史积累与区域基础,近代史上河南茧绸的生产在进行着自身的改良与革新,并为茧绸的贸易提供相应的支持。在生产日益发达的基础上,河南茧绸的贸易形成了产地、运输线、加工的整个完整体系,汉口、上海逐渐成为河南茧绸的贸易集散地。但是,由于生产的相对落后,以及各种客观不利因素,近代河南茧绸的生产及贸易市场,受到非常严重的影响,在市场体系中不断沦落到非常不利的地位。
