JAMA 1982; 247 (13): 1803. The lack of a second component of complement known as C2 may be related to stroke in young people. In a joint international stroke and cerebral circulation conference in New Orleans, neurologist Denis Simard reported 11 patients with C2 deficiency who were under the age of 42 of 30 stroke patients and lived in Quebec 2 years ago Hospital patients. The average age of patients with stroke due to lack of complement is 27 years of age; the average age for a typical stroke is 60-70 years. In a wide range of disease tests, 11 patients were found to be deficient in C2. The other 10 randomized older stroke patients (48 years to 70 years) had normal C2 levels. Simard
