Creative Nature of Literary Translation The creative elements of translation are accompanied by the history of Western translation and the evolution of its translation thought. As early as ancient Rome, the famous speaker Cicero advocated that translation should be as close as possible to the connotation and language of the original text, and to a certain extent, retain the original rhetoric. The translator, instead of slavishly attaching himself to the original expression, should instead proceed from the overall situation to minimize the rhetorical style and stylistic effect of the original text.
