文学理论的发展前景是怎样的?这已经成为困扰着该领域研究者们的一个大问题。人们依然在思考着,文章、著作也层出不穷,然而没有什么比看不到前景的努力更令人沮丧的了。引进西方人的理论话语曾经使我们的文学理论领域热闹非凡,似乎找到了建设和发展这个学科的有效途径,但是冷静下来一看,原来西方人也正在为找不到出路而发愁呢!其实不仅是文学理论,整个人文科学领域中那种以往人们习以为常的理论形态都面临着极大的困境。哲学是做什么的?什么样的哲学才是有意义的?甚至理论这种知识形态本身是否有存在的合法性也成了问题,更遑论文学理论了。这说明,我们的确应该坐下来好好思考一下文学理论的前景问题了。
