According to the work plan of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and UNESCO (UNESCO) and the Soviet Union's International Scientific Cooperation Center (GKNT) on the special topic of “Geology and Environment”, the Soviet Union's Department of Geology, June 18-26, 1986 In Tallinn and Leningrad, an international symposium on “Mining and Environmental Impacts” was organized.
