扬州市蜀冈-瘦西湖风景名胜区是以古城文化为基础,以重要历史文化遗迹和瘦西湖古典园林群为特色,与城市紧密相依的国家重点风景名胜区,1988年经国务院批准设立,总规划面积12.23平方公里,由瘦西湖风景区、蜀冈风景区、唐子城风景区、笔架山风景区、绿杨村风景区等五个区域组成。景区管委会自2006年1月成立以来,按照打造“国内一流、国际知名,融人文、生态、休闲于一体的著名景区”的目标,大力发扬市委倡导的“三干(干大事、干实事、干群众满意的事)”精神,凝心聚力,攻坚克难,先后启动了万花园、傍花村等10多个项目,总投资达8亿多元,目前5个项目已初步建成。其中万花园项目作为瘦西湖风景区历史景点的恢复完善,塑造出扬州人居“花城”的形象;傍花村项目通过对原景区居民住宅的搬迁改造,营造出瘦西湖新景区精致悠闲、充满诗情画意的整体旅游景观氛围。蜀冈-瘦西湖风景名胜区已成为扬州旅游发展的新平台、长三角体闲旅游的新高地,正向成为中国乃至世界闻名的旅游度假胜地的目标迈进。
