This article is a newsletter written by the editors of Progressive Railroading in the United States. The article pointed out that to improve reliability, reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions, to extend the maintenance cycle, is the railway departments to the common requirements of the 90’s locomotive, and the development of new products is the fundamental way to meet these requirements. This article briefly reports on the manufacturing, repairing and retrofitting of the four major locomotives GM-EMD, GE, MK and Republic in the United States, which are currently undergoing technological improvement, product development and production and operation.
