The Macau-Portuguese-speaking World Conference 2003 was jointly organized by the Macao Historical Relics Concern Association, the Macao Historical Society and the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Social Sciences. It was held in Macao on September 22-23. Nearly 100 scholars have submitted over 60 papers, focusing on the status and role of Macao as a bridge connecting China to Portuguese-speaking countries, the interaction between Macao and the Portuguese-speaking world history and culture, the impact of CEPA on the economy of Macao and the multiple intermediary economic and trade platforms discuss. Scholars believe this is an academic event of “foundation” significance and a prelude to the “China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum (Macao)” in October.
