隆德已有千年的历史,文化底蕴深厚、地域特色鲜明、群众基础广泛,形成了具有隆德特色的民间文化传统,泥塑、书法、篆刻、砖雕、农民画、剪纸、刺绣、民间宫灯等民间工艺在全区乃至全国独树一帜,各个艺术门类争奇斗妍,精品力作不断涌现,在区内外产生了良好的影响,1991年荣获了“中国现代民间绘画画乡”、2000年荣获“全国文化先进县”、2008年荣获“中国书法之乡”等殊荣。2008年自治区公布的第一批非物质文化遗产代表作名录收录了31个项目,隆德县以8个项目位居全区之首,其中杨氏家族泥塑、高台马灶火两个项目被确定为全国第二批非物质文化遗产保护项目。
