Objective To analyze the incidence of invasive fungal infection in patients with newly diagnosed acute leukemia and explore its risk factors. Methods The clinical data of 80 patients with newly diagnosed acute leukemia who were consecutively admitted to a ward of Department of Hematology, Peking University People’s Hospital from January 2007 to June 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The incidence of fungal infection during induction of acute leukemia was 13.8%. The risk factors for fungal infections are old age, high white blood cells and the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics for longer periods of time. Conclusions The incidence of fungal infections during the induction chemotherapy of newly diagnosed acute leukemia is high. It is necessary to prevent fungal infections in high-risk patients.
