材料媒介本身所具有的表现力是传统艺术表现工具材料所难以比拟的,不同材料都明显存在着其自身的语言表现特性,在艺术表现上更加直接、率真,省去了以往绘画中以具体形象、情节表述、思想隐喻等含蓄的艺术表现与息信传达方式,使作品表现意图与观念能够更明确地传递给观者。形式的多样性、语言的丰富性以及艺术观念的不断更迭,使得材料媒介对视觉艺术的影响具有了更加深远的现实意义。如何完成媒材表现在实际艺术、设计创作中的具体实现,如何更好地将其落实到艺术设计教学之中,都是艺术设计教育的重要主题。
