陈瑞献是新加坡资深作家中的重要代表,1960年代他以现代诗歌和小说闻名于新马文坛,他也是新马第一位践行西方现代文学创作理念和方法的作家。他自幼信奉佛教,佛家禅意经常出现在他的作品中,与他追慕的现代主义互相渗透,形成了一幅奇异的现代主义文学图景。西方现代主义的借用和佛教禅意的感悟构成了他文学创作生涯的关键词,也造就了其于新马现代主义诗歌的主将地位。
Chen Shui-hsien is an important representative of senior Singaporean writers. In the 1960s, he was famous for his poems and novels in Singapore and Malaysia. He is also the first writer in Singapore to practice the concept and method of Western modern literature creation. He believed in Buddhism since his childhood, Buddhism often appear in his works Zen, and his admire modernism mutual penetration, forming a bizarre modernist literary landscape.
