薄意雕法是古老的寿山石雕诸多雕刻技艺中的一种独特的表现手法。清朝末年至民国初年期间,寿山石雕刻大师林清卿吸收中国画的艺术养分,使薄意雕法日趋成熟,从多种雕刻技艺中脱颖而出,成为一门独特艺术,从而在雕刻领域中自成体系,独树一帜。薄意雕刻的石材一般以名贵石种为主,在雕刻过程中尽量保持这些宝贵石料的形、色,只是在这些名贵材料的外皮施以薄意,这样既有精美的雕刻艺术又能保留石材
