Comrade Liu Shaoqi is very concerned about the literary and artistic activities of workers. In 1963, he suggested that musicians should go deep into the lives of workers and write a series of short and hardy mass songs that reflect the workers’ ideology and encourage them to build their enthusiasm for building socialism. The Chinese Musician Association immediately organized a songwriter group to study life in the spring of 1964 in Daqing Oilfield while exploring the issues of writing workers’ songs. I joined the group, wrote some songs there, and “the hard working class” was one of them.
