A new monomeric 4-tert-butoxycarbonyloxy-3-trimethylsilylstyrene has been synthesized in a high yield over a seven-step reaction with a total yield of over 501%. The homopolymer of this monomer and alternating copolymer with sulfur dioxide have been separately prepared by free radical polymerization. The thermal decomposition of polymers has been proposed, and the photochemical reactions of thin films containing them formed by them have also been studied by IR and UV
