Dragon is a Chinese theme novel set by American writer Pearl S. Buck and set against the backdrop of the War of Resistance Against Japan. It is also the first English-language literary work to expose the western world to the brutal acts of Japanese aggressors during the Second World War. The novel reproduces the deep disaster caused to China by the war and demonstrates the mentality and fate of the local Chinese sons and daughters during the early and mid-anti-Japanese war. On the one hand reveals the deep-rooted land complex of peasant culture in China and the impact of this complex on the will of the peasants; on the other hand, it highlights Pearl S. Buck’s war concept. Pearl Buck’s reflection on issues such as war and human nature, war and gender, gender and ethnicity demonstrated her unique value.
