Objective To understand the effect of a copper smelter on blood lead and other heavy metals in living children. Methods From November to December 2010, a copper smelter was used as a fixed point source, 1 ~ 2 primary schools were chosen at a distance of 0 ~ 5 km, 5 ~ 10 km and> 10 km respectively, and children aged 6 ~ 11 years Participants, a total of 80 children (including 38 boys and 42 girls) venous blood. The contents of lead, zinc, iron, copper, selenium, nickel, mercury, cadmium, chromium and manganese in whole blood were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) Results The geometric mean values of blood lead, copper, cadmium and manganese were 28.50, 926.67, 0.16 and 17.19 μg / L respectively, and the arithmetical mean values of zinc and selenium were 5.23 mg / L and 131.78 μg / L respectively. , The median chromium were 469.98 mg / L, 2.38μg / L, 0.55μg / L and 1.73μg / L respectively. There was no significant correlation between heavy metals in children’s whole blood and their distance from school to smelting school and children’s age. There were gender differences in blood lead, iron and zinc distribution, and the distribution of the remaining elements in different genders was not statistically different. Conclusion The content of lead and other heavy metals in whole blood of children around the copper smelter is basically within the normal range. There is no correlation between the contents of heavy metal elements in children’s whole blood and the distance from the source of pollution in school.
