在中国当代水墨画家中,刘进安大概是一个极具特色的重要角色。我们从他的绘画历程也依稀看到了近20年来现代水墨画在中国的发展轨迹。尽管近百年西方文化日复一日地介入引发了中国画一次又一次变革、创新的热潮,但传统绘画强大而持久的回拉力,显得更有韧性和耐力。因而对所有踏入现代水墨实验的画家来讲,他们不仅仅是站在时代前列领受着喝彩声,同时也面临着被传统吞噬的风险和举步维艰的难度。现代水墨意味着画家从更宽泛,同时也更少历史(传统)压力的新起点上行
Among Chinese contemporary ink painters, Liu Jinan is probably a very significant and important character. From his painting history, we can vaguely see the development of modern ink painting in China in the past 20 years. Although nearly a hundred years of Western culture daily involve in triggering a revolution and innovation in Chinese painting, the strong and lasting pull-back force of traditional painting is even more resilient and enduring. Therefore, for all painters who embarked on modern ink experiments, they not only stood in the forefront of the times to receive applause, but also faced the risk of being swallowed up by tradition and the difficulties in their struggle. Modern ink painting means that painters move up from a new, wider but less pressing historical (traditional) point
