Since it is unclear why leukemic cells usually do not survive, whether bone marrow long-term culture (LTBMC) can be used as a means of bone marrow purification before autologous bone marrow transplantation in leukemia patients is the purpose of this article. 1. Growth characteristics of leukemia cells in LTBMC In 1985, Coulombel et al reported for the first time that the leukemia cells were significantly reduced in LMCs from patients with AML and that normal hematopoietic cells predominated; in addition, Ph’ positive CML cells were treated for 3 to 4 weeks. The LTBMC can produce a significant number of ph’-negative cells. The authors’ experimental results also confirmed this finding. They cultured bone marrow cells in AML patients, and 50% of them were leukemia cells.
