The use of fluorescent probes FMA and fluorescamine proved that some of the peptides in the EPS, such as SH and NH, participate in the interaction with root mucilage. The concentration induces a change in the amount of SH and NH groups in the EPS and leads to a conformational change of the polypeptide in EPS which plays an important role in the binding of Alcaligenes faecalis and rice roots
