天然彩色棉花简称“彩棉”。它是利用现代生物工程技术选育出的一种吐絮时棉纤维就具有红、黄、绿、棕、灰、紫等天然彩色的特殊类型棉花。用这种棉花织成的布不需染色、无化学染料毒素,质地柔软而富有弹性,制成的服装经洗涤和风吹日晒也不变色。耐穿耐磨、穿着舒适,有利人体健康。由于彩棉的这些突出优点,因而彩棉制品一问世,便受到了人们的特别关注,虽然价格比普通棉织品高出3～5倍,但在发达国家仍供不应求,国际市场价格持续攀升。
