After a mine accident, ambulance workers often have to enter the area of inerting or noxious gas to find and rescue miners, control fire and restore mine ventilation. There are currently two 4-hour respirators for use by ambulance teams. Both respirators have been validated for four hours as specified in Section 11, Subpart B, Chapter 11, US Federal Security Code.
