Objective To understand the mental health of naval vessels and its relationship with personality traits. Methods Self-made questionnaires, Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) were used to measure 382 servicemen, destroyers and conventional submarine crew members of the Navy. Results The service ships, destroyers and conventional submarine crew members were all different from the norm. The internal and external dimensions of the naval vessel crew and the symptoms self-rating scale except for somatization, hostility and delusion all showed significant (P <0.05), while there was a significant positive correlation between neuroticism and each factor score. Conclusion mental health work must be emphasized and implemented.
