Objective To study the effect of continuous high-power millimeter wave irradiation on behavior and lethality in mice. Methods The high power millimeter wave source with the frequency of 34.1GHz and the maximum output average power of 20W was used, and the four pyramidal horn antennas were respectively connected to the vertical irradiation animals. The video monitoring system was used to track and record the behavior change of animals exposed to millimeter wave in real time. The temperature change of body surface of animals was recorded in real time by infrared radiography instrument, and the dose-response relationship was analyzed. Results The continuous irradiation of four pyramidal horn antennas resulted in a series of similar changes in the behavior of mice. However, the thresholds of violent reaction under different millimeter wave parameters were different, and the body surface temperature of mice also increased significantly. With the extension of irradiation time, the mice eventually died, and the temperature of the body surface reached the maximum (temperature increase as high as 18.43 ℃). Conclusion The thermal effect caused by high power millimeter wave irradiation is the main injury and lethal factor. The violent reaction and death time in irradiated mice are closely related to the average output power and the irradiation distance.
