The development of computer and data transmission technologies makes many of the new automation functions of power distribution systems technically possible and economically viable. New developments include the remote control and automation of medium voltage distribution systems, monitoring of electrical loads, and computer systems that support the operation, planning and maintenance of distribution systems.
