Mosquitoes are the most effective disease spreaders in the animal kingdom. The mosquito war started to fail after years of progress. Pesticides and other tools that once blocked mosquitoes are no longer available. At the same time, urbanization and climate change have allowed mosquito sites to expand into the developed countries. The good news is that researchers are developing next-generation technologies that disrupt mosquito gene coding and fertility systems. Some technologies aim to stop mosquito-borne diseases, others aim to drastically reduce the number of mosquitoes while not using pesticides that can cause side effects on the environment. It is bound to make bioethics scholars worry about tampering with the genes of the entire species. But very
