本文根据2015年在香港举行的“英语的面孔”研讨会所发表的主题演讲,探讨诺顿对身份认同与二语习得的研究如何用“投资”的构思作为与心理学“动机”相辅相成的社会学概念(诺顿,2013年)。其中一个重要的着重点是于2015年响应越发数字化的全球沟通环境而加以扩充的投资模式(达尔文、诺顿,2015年),定位投资概念在身份认同、社会资本和意识形态的交点处。诺顿借鉴其于加拿大、巴基斯坦、乌干达、伊朗等地所进行的协助性研究的调查成果以说明投资理论的实践情况。关于数字故事作为一种有效的教学方式,作者认为面对全球英语教师的挑战之一是如何透过增加英语学习者可用身份的幅度,以促进学习者投资到教室的语言和读写作法
Based on the keynote address at the “English Faces” seminar held in Hong Kong in 2015, this article explores how Norton’s study of identity and second language acquisition used the notion of “investment” as a motivation in relation to psychology "Complementary sociological concepts (Norton, 2013). An important focus is on the investment model to be expanded in 2015 in response to the increasingly digital global communications environment (Darwin, Norton, 2015), positioning the concept of investment at the intersection of identity, social capital and ideology. Norton draws on his survey of supporting studies conducted in Canada, Pakistan, Uganda and Iran to illustrate the practice of investment theory. About Digital Story As an effective teaching method, the author believes that one of the challenges in facing global English teachers is how to promote learners’ investment in classroom language and reading and writing by increasing the available range of English learners
