早我一年到澳洲的表姐,抬头举足都“商业化”了。临出国时,几位做文化生意的朋友托她在万忙之中购买华文和英文版的书目;我也曾托她带一些外文资料,先前还有一、二次消息,后来便杳无音讯。我想,或许是表姐太忙,或者是澳洲压根就不讲文化性,书难买罢。我抵澳洲不到3分钟便向表姐提及此事,没想到表姐说:“你来了,正好,你为那几个‘死鬼’去买!”实际情况与我想象的大有不同。在澳洲走访了几个大城市和一些著名风景区,发现不管是城市还是乡镇,大小书店、书亭满街都有,而且到处都设有公共图书馆,设施都相当现代化。不论白天夜晚,我都注意到那里的阅览室里几乎是座无虚席。澳洲人每逢休假日都有上图书馆的雅兴,这里图书馆之多,以遍布城乡来形容绝不为过。澳大利亚是一个生存竞争激烈、重
