美国不仅是工业大国,也是农业大国。它拥有28亿亩耕地(人均近13亩);农业人口约占2％,农业劳动力约占2％;近年来粮谷产量3.3亿吨上下,常占世界第一、二位。以1982年为例,它生产了世界1/6的小麦,近1/2的玉米,近1/3的高粱,2/3的大豆,1/6的棉花和向日葵。同年生产的牛肉占世界的1/5,猪肉占1/8,牛奶和鸡蛋近1/7。1982年谷物出口1亿吨,几乎占世界出口总额的1/2。
The United States is not only a big industrial country but also a big agricultural country. It owns 2.8 billion mu of cultivated land (nearly 13 mu per capita); agricultural population accounts for about 2% and agricultural labor force accounts for about 2%. In recent years, cereal output has reached 330 million tons, accounting for the top two in the world. In 1982, for example, it produced 1/6 of the world’s wheat, nearly 1/2 of the corn, nearly one-third of the sorghum, two-thirds of the soybeans, 1/6 of the cotton and sunflowers. In the same year it produced about one-fifth of the world’s beef, one-eighth of pork, and nearly one-seventh of milk and egg. In 1982, the country exported 100 million tons of cereals, accounting for almost half of the world’s total exports.
