刚刚踏入1996年,古郡新城高州就迎来了首届冼夫人诞辰节纪念活动。1月14日上午,高州市委门前的广场上锣鼓喧天,彩旗猎猎,欢呼雀跃的市民沉浸在浓浓的节日气氛之中。 冼夫人诞辰节纪念活动是由高州市政府牵头的民间纪念活动,目的在于通过颂扬冼夫人的历史功绩,弘扬民族文化,进一步开展爱国、爱乡、爱民教育,同时广交海内外朋友,加强对外经济合作,促进高州市的经济发展。 冼夫人诞辰节纪念活动包括:广场大型文艺表演、彩车大游行、阵地活动——醒狮表演、木偶戏表演、粤剧演出、电影放映、美术、书法、摄影作品展览以及冼夫人学术研究活动。另外,在纪念活动期间,高州市还举行了第三届“高州市荣誉市民”
