The Midwest Institute of the United States published 11 consecutive studies on the toxicity of explosives to mammals from 1976 to 1980. The research was completed by the U.S. Army Department and supported by the Medical and Biological Engineering Research and Development Laboratory of the Army Medical Research Development Center. The overall title of this series of studies is “The Toxicity of Ordnance Compounds to Mammals,” and so far 11 published reports have been divided into three phases: Acute oral toxicity, mainly irritation of the eyes and skin, skin-induced Sensitive as well as distribution and metabolism; Multidose effects; Lifelong exposure.
