The U.S. Navy finally decided to upgrade its existing “Ohio Class” ballistic missile submarine fleet (SSBN) with the latest sonar hardware and software processing equipment beginning in FY17. This work is expected to be completed by 2020, when all active ballistic missile nuclear submarines will gain access to the latest technology and equipment for greater underwater combat capability through the latest ARCI technology. At present, the NAVSEA submarine team is responsible for overseeing related acquisition activities and the latest ARCI hardware improvements are currently being delivered.
